EARLY ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT
Early orthodontic treatment is dental intervention before your child’s permanent teeth erupt. Early intervention may help prevent the improper alignment and growth of your child’s permanent teeth. There are different early orthodontic treatment options available, and the treatment recommended will depend on your child’s specific dental issues. Early treatment is important because it enables the dentist to treat your child’s skeletal jaw and alignment issues before their permanent teeth erupt.
BRACES
Has your dentist recommended you or your child get braces to straighten your teeth? If so, you will need to decide which type of orthodontic treatment is right for you. There are five different types of braces, Metal Braces, Lingual Braces, Ceramic Braces, Self-Ligating Braces and Clear Invisible Aligners. The type that’s right for you will depend on several factors, which include how severe your dental issues are, what type of braces you prefer, and your budget. If you would like more information about which types of braces are right for you, please contact us.
TWO-PHASE TREATMENT
Two-phase orthodontic treatment is a specialized orthodontic treatment for children. It focuses on two separate orthodontic treatments. One for tooth straightening and the other for physical and facial changes. Most orthodontic treatments can be done in one phase. However, there are some exceptions. If your child experiences any of the following dental issues, they might be a candidate for a two-phase orthodontic treatment: If they have bite or chewing problems. If your child is still sucking their thumb after five years of age. If your child has protruding upper or lower teeth. If your child loses their baby teeth before the age of five.
FLUORIDE
Fluoride treatment is a dental procedure that helps prevent tooth decay or prevent it from becoming worse. Fluoride is a natural mineral element found in water, it can help to strengthen your tooth’s enamel. Typically, children receive Fluoride treatments once every six months, or twice every six months, depending on their specific needs outlined by your dentist. MOUTH-GUARDS
Protecting your smile while playing sports is essential. Mouthguards can help protect your teeth from injury. To create a mouthguard, a dentist first takes an impression of the patient’s teeth. This impression is then used to convert the impression into a mouthguard. The result is a precise mouthguard made for the patient’s needs. Ask us about mouthguards at your next appointment!
DENTOFACIAL ORTHOPEDICS
Dentofacial orthopedics are used to guide the growth of your facial bones using orthopedic appliances for your face and jaw. Children are the best candidates for dentofacial orthopedics because they are still growing. Dentofacial orthopedic techniques are usually used on children prior to them getting other orthodontic treatments like braces.
SURGICAL ORTHODONTICS
Surgical orthodontics is also called orthognathic surgery. It is corrective jaw surgery that is performed to correct any skeletal problems you might have, including the ability to speak, chew, and bite. Surgical orthodontics is usually performed on adults after their teeth are fully grown in and their jaws are stable. Surgical orthodontic procedures are used to correct severe cases of misaligned bites, jawbone abnormalities, and any other severe malocclusions you might have.
TMJ-TMD
Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and temporomandibular disorder (TMD) affect the jaw joint and the muscles that control jaw movement. These conditions can cause various symptoms, including pain, discomfort, and difficulty opening and closing the jaw. TMJ may be self-treatable in some cases. In cases requiring treatment, treatment options may include: physical therapy, medications, occlusal adjustments, intraoral appliances, and surgery.
